Dallas College Mountain View women's basketball team will play Riverland Community College (Minn.) 4 p.m. CT Wednesday in the opening round of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Championship Tournament at Rochester Regional Sports Center in Rochester, Minnesota.

The Lions (12-7) received the No. 10 seed to the 12-team national tournament. Riverland (21-5) is the No. 7 seed. The winner meets second-seeded Fulton-Montgomery Community College (N.Y.) in the quarterfinals 6 p.m. Thursday, March 16. Games can be watched on the NJCAA Network and followed via Live Stats.

Mountain View is making its first national tournament appearance. The No. 15 nationally-ranked Lions won the NJCAA Division III South Central District championship Saturday after sharing the Dallas Athletic Conference regular season title. The Lions have won their past four games, and are 1-0 in neutral site games this season.

Mountain View three-year sophomore guard Devon Sherrod is two points away from 1,000 career points. She is fourth in the country in scoring this season at 22 points per game. She is shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 41.5 percent from three-point range, while averaging 9.8 rebounds, 4.4 steals and 3.4 assists.

Freshman guard/forward Leah Jones is scoring 13.6 points, and averaging 7.3 rebounds, 5.7 steals and three assists, while shooting 47 percent from the floor. Freshman point guard Shaviante Cobb is averaging 12.3 points, 6.7 boards, 3.3 assists and 2.7 steals, while shooting 45.7 percent. Freshman forward Kimberly Cohen is averaging 8.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.7 steals.

Freshman guard Laela Harris is scoring 7.5 points, while pulling down 5.9 rebounds and coming up with 1.8 steals. Freshman guard Asia Smith is averaging 5.1 points and 4.6 rebounds, and has scored in double figures in three of the last four games, including a season-high 24 points, while going 9 of 11 from the floor and 6 of 7 from three-point range on Feb. 6. Freshman forward Katelin Holmes is averaging five points and 5.3 boards, while shooting 41.7 percent. Freshman backup point guard Tokina Nagai is scoring just under four points per game, and averaging 3.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists, while shooting 43.7 percent.

Head coach Keitha Dickerson, who alongside assistant coaches Chris Carter and Ka'Von Lee, has guided the Lions to the best record in program history, while matching the most wins in a season. Mountain View went 12-11 in 2019-20 during Dickerson's return to Mountain View as head coach.
