Josh Merrell was named the interim head baseball coach at Dallas College Mountain View in February 2026.

Prior to taking over as the interim head coach, Merrell served as the assistant coach from October 2024 until January 2026.

In his first season with the program as an assistant in 2025, the Lions went 12-40 overall, 5-25 in the Dallas Athletic Conference. Mountain View qualified for the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South Central District Tournament  – the program's first postseason berth since 2019. The Lions won the final two series of the regular season. Asher Bates was named First Team All-DAC. Greg Willis was a Second Team All-DAC selection.

Merrell was the assistant varsity and junior varsity coach at Episcopal School of Dallas in 2023-24. With the Eagles, he worked with the pitching staff, held practice and game oversight duties and assisted with other administrative and team responsibilities. He's also served as a camp instructor at Episcopal School of Dallas since 2023.

Since 2023, Merrell has provided private instruction for D-Bat in Addison, Texas. There, he provides age-appropriate hitting and pitching instruction to players ages 5-18. He created throwing programs for arm care maintenance and rehabilitation for athletes 14 and older.

Merrell was a right-handed pitcher for Lamar Community College from 2020-21.

Following his time at Lamar Community College, Merrell transferred to Collin Community College in 2023.
