Bio

Ramon Garza was named head baseball coach at Dallas College Mountain View on Oct. 1, 2024.

Prior to taking over at Mountain View, Garza spent one season as the assistant coach at Dallas College Eastfield, which went 50-15 with a trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III national championship round. The Bees won the Dallas Athletic Conference regular season title, and finished as the NJCAA Division III South Central District runner-up. He coached two NJCAA Division III All-Americans in pitcher Marcus Peters and first baseman Payton Poole, both of whom earned second team honors. Garza was named the American Baseball Coaches Association National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Assistant Coach of the Year. 

Garza served one year at the University of Texas at Dallas in 2022-23 as a volunteer coach. The Comets went 25-19 overall, 15-12 in the American Southwest Conference. UT Dallas advanced to the ASC semifinals.

In 2022, he served as the head coach of the Charlottesville Tom Sox. The Tom Sox won the Valley Baseball League championship that season. 

Garza played two seasons as a middle infielder at UT Dallas in 2021 and 2022. He was named an NCAA Division III First Team All-American by D3Baseball.com as a senior. Garza earned Second Team All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings in 2022. He was a two-time First Team All-West Region selection by the ABCA in 2021 and 2022, and a First Team All-Region choice by D3Baseball.com in 2022 and Third Team All-Region selection in 2021. Garza earned First Team All-ASC distinction as a senior and Second Team honors as a junior. He was a two-time ASC All-Tournament pick, and was a two-time ASC All-Academic recipient. The Comets won two ASC titles during his playing days in Richardson.

Prior to transferring to UT Dallas, Garza played shortstop for three seasons at Cornell University from 2017-20, becoming a three-year starter with the Big Red.

He played for the Charlottesville Tom Sox in 2019, winning the Valley League championship. Garza became the first person to win the league title as a player and a coach. He also played with the Harwich Mariners in the Cape Cod League in 2018.

A product of San Antonio Reagan High School, where he was a member of a team that made two state final appearances, Garza was selected to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Game. 

Garza earned a bachelor's degree in applied economics and management from Cornell in 2020. He earned a master's degree in finance from UT Dallas in 2022. 

He is the son of Ramon and Mercedes Garza, who reside in San Antonio. He has two older brothers, Mike, a baseball coach at Rutgers University, and Eric, a lawyer in Fort Worth, Texas.
