Men's Basketball Takes Back-to-Back Wins into District Tournament

DALLAS – Dallas College Mountain View's men's basketball team won its second straight game, beating Dallas College Cedar Valley, 90-78, in the final game of the regular season Saturday in the Lions Den.

The Lions (15-14, 2-8 Dallas Athletic Conference) won its final two games of the regular season, and will enter this week's National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South Central District Tournament as the No. 5 seed. Mountain View plays Dallas College Brookhaven (14-14) in Tuesday's 8 p.m. quarterfinal at Dallas College Eastfield.

In Saturday's home finale, the Lions outscored Cedar Valley, 47-34, in the second half to move back over the .500 mark.

Mountain View shot 55 percent from three-point range, going 11 of 20. The Lions held Cedar Valley (8-18) to 3 of 10 from downtown.

Mountain View's Xavier Peyton scored 25 points on 10 of 18 shooting, and had five rebounds and a steal. Joshua Smith had 15 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks. It was his second double-double of the week and 17th of the season. Point guard Louis Conner had 15 points, 11 assists and five steals, while hitting 4 of 5 triples. Doviyon Bradford shot 7 of 11 from the floor, finishing with 14 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and five steals. Bryant Smith had nine points, and Jordan Hicks five.

Cedar Valley's Braylon Crosby had 21 points, going 9 of 16 from the floor, six rebounds, four assists and a steal. Jude Donovan scored 13 points. Point guard Keelan Russell had 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting, four assists and two steals. Armani Reese had 11 points, six boards and two blocks, hitting five of nine field goals. Charlie Gutierrez had eight points, eight boards, four assists and four steals, while going 4 of 7 from the field. Dillon Barnes had seven points, and Malik Conley six points and five rebounds.

The Lions outrebounded the Suns, 35-31. Mountain View was credited with 26 assists on 35 field goals. Cedar Valley had 15 assists on 31 baskets.

Mountain View went 10-5 at home this season.

The Lions, who split the season series with Brookhaven, will meet the Bears for the second time in a week. Mountain View beat Brookhaven, 85-71, Wednesday.
