Smith Defensive Player of Year, Lions Earn Three All-DAC Awards

DALLAS – Dallas College Mountain View men's basketball's Joshua Smith was voted the Dallas Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Smith also was selected to the First Team All-DAC, while teammates Doviyon Bradford and Xavier Peyton earned Second Team honors.

A 6-foot-8 freshman forward from Plano, Texas, Smith averaged 18.5 points, 11.2 rebounds and 4.1 blocks per game. His 118 total blocks was second among National Junior College Athletic Association Division III leaders, and his 4.1 blocks per game was fourth. He shot 65.6 percent from the field and 71.9 percent from the free throw line. His field goal percentage was second nationally. Smith scored a season-high 35 points on 13 of 19 shooting in a win over Jacksonville College Nov. 18. He pulled down a season-high 22 rebounds in a win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University Junior Varsity Jan. 17. Smith recorded 19 double-doubles this season.

A 6-1 freshman guard from Dallas, Bradford averaged 17.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists and three steals. He shot 57.7 percent from the floor and 85.5 percent from the free throw line. Bradford scored a season-high 37 points, hitting 17 of 22 field goals, in a win over Southwestern Adventist University Dec. 4. He scored 35 or more points in three games, including two DAC contests.

A 5-11 freshman guard from North Richland Hills, Texas, Peyton averaged 15.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals. He shot 46.7 percent from the floor, 38.7 percent from three-point range and 71.9 percent from the free throw line. Peyton scored a season-high 31 points on 10 of 18 shooting versus Dallas College Cedar Valley Feb. 3. He knocked down a season-best 12 field goals in two games.
