Mountain View Sweeps DAC Player of Week Honors

Dallas College Mountain View's Devon Sherrod and Cedrick Dodd II were selected the Dallas Athletic Conference basketball Players of the Week.

Sherrod, a sophomore guard from Grand Prairie, Texas, claimed the league's women's honor. She averaged 21.7 points in a week Mountain View went 2-2, with both losses coming against National Junior College Athletic Association Division I and II schools. Sherrod scored 28 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, had three assists and three steals in a nine-point road loss to Western Oklahoma State. She had 15 points, nine boards, five steals and three assists in an 82-77 loss to the University of Arkansas Cossatot. Sherrod scored 21 points in a win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University Junior Varsity and 23 points in a win over Jarvis Christian University's JV. She averaged 10 rebounds, 4.3 steals and 3.8 assists during the week. She shot 40 of 76 from the floor, including 7 of 11 from 3-point range.  

Dodd, a sophomore guard from Desoto, Texas, won the men's honor. He averaged 24.7 points, shot 47.4 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from three-point range as the Lions remained unbeaten with three wins last week. Mountain View knocked off a National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Western Oklahoma State, 103-96, and NJCAA DII Arkansas Cossatot for the second straight game, this time a 94-93 verdict at home. Dodd hit game-tying shots and crucial game-on-the-line plays with under 30 seconds to play in all three wins. He averaged 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.7 steals during the week.

Mountain View's women's team (5-2) plays at Jarvis Christian JV 5 p.m. Monday and hosts Southwestern Christian College 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The Lions' men's team is ranked 11th in this week's NJCAA DIII national poll, and will take its 6-0 record into Tuesday's 7 p.m. home game against Southwestern Christian.
