Sherrod Named National Player of Week
Dallas College Mountain View's Devon Sherrod has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
A 5-foot-5 sophomore guard from Grand Prairie, Texas, Sherrod had 33 points, 10 rebounds, eight steals, five assists and a block in a win over Dallas College Richland last week to cap the regular season. She hit 11 of 22 field goals, and sank eight of nine free throws in topping 30 points in a game this season. Sherrod scored a season-high 36 points against the Dallas Angels Jan. 24.
Her career high is 40 points, which came Nov. 2, 2021 in the season-opening win at Southwestern Adventist University last season.
A three-year player for the Lions due to the COVID exception, Sherrod has scored in double figures in every game this season. Her 33 points and 10 boards last week marked her 11th double-double of the season. She has scored 30 or more points nine times in her Mountain View career.
Sherrod is averaging 22 points, 9.7 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 3.4 assists per game this season.
Ranked No. 15 in the final NJCAA Division III poll, Mountain View (11-7) will play No. 11 Dallas College Cedar Valley (15-4) for the South Central District Championship 2 p.m. Saturday at Dallas College North Lake.
North Lake will host the district semifinals for men beginning 6 p.m. Friday. The championships for women and men begin 2 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $10 for a tournament pass for all games, $5 for adult single session of two games and $3 for students ages 6-18. Children under 6 are free. Dallas College students and employees with a current ID (must present at the gate) are free. Game programs are $2.
