DALLAS – Dallas College Mountain View women's basketball team won its home opener Wednesday, beating Southwestern Christian College, 89-64.
Three Lions scored in double figures – each of them recording at least 20 points in a game Mountain View sprinted out to a 36-13 first quarter lead. Guard Asia Zachary scored 22 points, going 10 of 17 from the field, grabbed seven rebounds, and had two steals off the bench. Guard Leah Jones had 21 points on 6 of 14 shooting. She was 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Guard Jourdan Jones scored 20 points on 7 of 13 shooting, and had four steals. She was 6-for-6 from three-point range.
Mountain View (2-0) connected on 62.5 percent of its 3-point field goals, going 10 of 16 from behind the arc.
Guard/forward Ahniyah Jackson had eight points, four rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Power forward Fiona Hasse had five points, six boards, a block and a steal. Point guard Kianna Jones had six assists, five points and four rebounds.
The win over Southwestern Christian College was the first of two games against National Junior College Athletic Association Division I opponents this week for Mountain View, which advanced to the NJCAA Division III Tournament two seasons ago. The Lions play at NJCAA Division I Murray State College 5:30 p.m. Friday.
