Angelica Polanco Interview after Mid-South quarters win

Dallas College Mountain View beat Dallas College North Lake, 2-1, in overtime Tuesday in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Mid-South District quarterfinals at Dallas College Brookhaven.

Mountain View (6-6-1) advances to Thursday's 6:30 p.m. semifinals against Dallas College Richland (8-5-1) at Brookhaven.

Angelica Polanco scored the gamewinning goal in the second overtime on a setup from Dunia Chavez to send the Lions on the semifinals. Chavez also assisted on the first goal – a strike by Natalie Ramos in the fourth minute that put Mountain View ahead, 1-0.

"It just worked with being determined to score," Polanco said. "Somehow after second half, we always kind of just slow down. We know how to pick up the pace. It's the want. We have to want it."

North Lake got the equalizer two minutes into the second half when Semya Chancellor converted a pass from Clara Olivares.

Mountain View recorded 20 shots, including six in overtime. North Lake, which finished its season 1-10-1, had five shots, one coming in the extra period.

Lexis Mata made five saves in between the posts for the Lions, who had eight shots on goal. North Lake keeper Jaqueline Serratos had four saves.

Lions coach Jesse Garfias improved to 4-0 in the first round of the postseason with the Lions.

"We know we can keep going in this level of soccer," Polanco said. "We know we can keep pushing higher. I hope … the whole team hopes … we know we can win first place."
