Narvaiz Selected DAC Defensive Player of Week

Dallas College Brookhaven's Ariel Austin and Dallas College Mountain View's Marissa Narvaiz were named the Dallas Athletic Conference volleyball Players of the Week.

A freshman outside hitter from North Crowley, Texas, Austin collected the DAC Offensive Player of the Week honor for the fourth time. She pounded 31 kills, and had 29 digs and five aces as the No. 5 National Junior College Athletic Association Division III-ranked Bears won a pair of matches to complete an unbeaten league season. Austin had 16 kills, 16 digs and two aces, while hitting .213 in a four-set win at Dallas College Richland. She had 15 kills, 13 digs, three aces and a .387 attack percentage in a sweep of Dallas College Cedar Valley on Sophomore Night.

Austin ranks second in the country in kills with 466 and third in points with 532.

Narvaiz, a sophomore defensive specialist from Lubbock, Texas, earned the league's defensive award. She had 66 digs as Mountain View split a pair of five-set matches. She had a career-high 37 digs and two aces in a five-set loss at Dallas College North Lake. Narvaiz recorded 29 digs and a season-best five aces in a five-set win over Richland.

Brookhaven (21-9) will host the NJCAA DIII Southwest District Championships beginning Wednesday this week. The Bears play the lowest remaining seed in Friday's 5:30 p.m. semifinals. Mountain View (12-20) meets Dallas College Eastfield (8-18) in Wednesday's 7:30 p.m. quarterfinals.
