Mountain View Moves on to NJCAA DIII Southwest Semifinals

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Dallas College Mountain View's volleyball team beat Dallas College Eastfield, 25-19, 26-24, 25-23, Wednesday in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Southwest District quarterfinals at Dallas College Brookhaven.

The win sends Mountain View (13-20) on to Friday's 5:30 p.m. semifinals against host Brookhaven (21-9).

The Lions had 38 kills in 109 attack opportunities for a .193 hitting percentage, and scooped up 67 digs on the defensive end in the quarterfinals sweep.

Samantha Newman finished with 11 kills, a solo block and .360 attack percentage for the Lions. Malaeka Wilson hit .500 with eight kills, and recorded six solo blocks. Cami Chesler and Jasmine Phillips each had six kills. Justyce Vanlandingham and Zyara Harrison each had 18 assists.

Mountain View recorded a .282 attack rate in the second set, putting down 16 balls. The Lions pounded 15 more kills in the third set to put the match away.

The Lions will be meeting Brookhaven for the third time this season. They took the No. 4 nationally-ranked Bears to four sets in both of the Dallas Athletic Conference regular season matches.
