Newman Named DAC Offensive Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Dallas College Mountain View outside hitter Samantha Newman was named the Dallas Athletic Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week.

A sophomore from Alvarado, Texas, Newman banged down 36 kills, hit .241, had one ace, three solo blocks and 32 digs in 13 sets as the Lions won three of five matches last week.

Newman hit .367 with 13 kills in a four-set victory over Southwestern Christian College in the home opener. She had 12 kills, and had a .250 attack rate for the second straight match in another four-set win over Southwestern Christian two days later at the Western Texas College Fall Classic. She banged 11 kills and hit .292 in a sweep of National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Coastal Bend College.

Newman is hitting .251 with a team-leading 70 kills this season.

Mountain View (3-4) will host Southwestern Adventist University 6 p.m. Tuesday and Ranger College 5 p.m. Wednesday.
