Lions Move within Match of .500

TERRELL, Texas – Dallas College Mountain View's volleyball team moved within a match of the .500 mark after beating Southwestern Christian College, 25-20, 25-20, 20-25, 25-21, Tuesday night.

It was the Lions' first road win of the season.

Mountain View (4-5) used double-digit kills from Jasmine Phillips and JaKyra Roberts to propel the offensive attack. Phillips banged down a career-high 19 balls in 40 swings for a .275 attack rate, while Roberts hit .233 on 13 kills in 30 attempts. Roberts added three blocks, and Phillips 20 digs.

Averi Young had seven kills and two blocks.

Nursing a 2-0 lead in the match, the Lions hit .258 in the third set, pounding 14 kills in 31 attacks, but Southwestern Christian managed to win the set to cut the gap to 2-1. Yet in a match separated by five or less points in each set, Mountain View wrapped up the victory in the fourth.

Jamaya Davis had 19 digs and an ace. Madison Holcomb finished with 25 assists, three aces and eight digs. Zyara Harrison had 19 assists. Justyce Vanlandingham had 26 digs and two aces.

Mountain View plays at Clarendon College 2 p.m. Thursday before heading to the Lamar Community College Triangular in Lamar, Colorado Saturday.
